Support projects undertaken by the Pomeranian Genealogical Society

For many years, Pomeranian Genealogical Society (Pomorskie Towarzystwo Genealogiczne) carries out projects for genealogists. We started our activity from the file indexing of vital records from the holdings of the Diocesan Archive in Pelplin. We managed to gather up to now (October 2012) over 2 400 000 indexed persons. These indices are placed in our database (POMGENBAZA). This project involve many volunteers (list of participants). Indexing project is one of our main objectives, but not the only one.

     After the parish records were exported to Germany during the Second World War many of them lost. Some of the books were transferred to the Archives of the Diocese of Regensburg, and those most damaged to the National Archives in Leipzig and the National Archives in Gdansk. By agreement between the Polish and German Bishops' Conferences, books from Regensburg returned to Poland and are now in the Diocesan Archives on Polish territory.
    At some point, the members of the Pomeranian Genealogical Society get the idea that PTG can contact with the State Archives in Gdansk and offered help in the digitization and indexing of vital records resources of the Archive, including the acts of civil registry records.
    Along with establishing this cooperation a new phase of activity of our Society began. With our modest means and forces we started to support the National Archives in digitizing its resources. For the purpose of digitization project, we purchased equipment (tripods, cameras, cameras' equipment, disks).

Our work to date has resulted in execution of more than 350,000 images civil records act.

     Now we ask our supporters to support projects carried out by the Society for donations and contributions for the purchase of equipment necessary to continue the digitization (at the moment there is an urgent need to purchase a Canon SLR camera). So far we received 2760 PLN on our account. Thank you :-)
