I have noticed in my searches today tha the site is automaticly translating some of the surnames. This is disturbing. I like tha translation feature on the message board but I do not like to have the surnames translated to Polish. I have one ancester that married a person by the name of Josef onion. She now appears as Josef Onions.

Surnames are not translated in our databases. General rule is that names in indexes are written identical as in registers. So they can be found sometimes very different from current versions of those names. In many cases searching with Daitch-Mokotoff SOUNDEX can help a lot.

There are only translated some names of parishes and other places.

Please check the database for Marriages for Warmowski. My grandmother is shown as Augustin Cockle not Augustin Kakol as she should be. I have also found cebula translated to Onions. I agree they should be as in the records no matter what the spelling, but I am finding that is not always the case. Thank you for your response.

I have an impression that "translating effect" which you observed is possibly related to the browser you are using. For example google toolbar has an option to translate the contentent automatically . Smile
